Nadia Essex didn't believe she could get pregnant after 'hellish year' as she opens up about baby news

Nadia Essex has opened up about her pregnancy from her shock at finding out, advice from celebrity mums and returning to dating

Nadia Essex has opened up about life as a mum-to-be after confirming her 'shock' pregnancy .

The 37-year-old telly star said that her happy news came after a 'hellish year', in which she was reportedly dismissed from Celebs Go Dating for making 'false allegations' against Eden Blackman.

Nadia said she takes 'full responsibility' for her failings and is looking forward to the next chapter in her life.

"Most people make a mistake and it's not splashed across the front pages. I received messages from strangers saying they wished I was dead. It was humiliating and nearly sent me over the edge. But it's made me a better person and I'm unbelievably grateful to still be here," Nadia said in an interview with Closer magazine.

Nadia described her mental health is 'still fragile' after her traumatic 12 months, that also saw her lose her Love Island star friend Mike Thalassitis.

Mike took his own life in March a year after appearing alongside Nadia on the E4 reality show.

Nadia said she underwent therapy and meditation after Mike's death and took herself away from the spotlight.

Nadia said she was devastated by the loss of Mike Thalassitis

But now Nadia is overjoyed to be welcoming her very first child.

She admits the news came as a quite a shock because she'd felt sure she could never have children of her own and didn't realise she was expecting for nine weeks.

Nadia said she had only just stopped taking the contraceptive pill and was using protection when she conceived with a partner whose identity she has decided to keep a secret.

"My doctor told me there was less than one per cent chance of conception. Everyone's shocked but I wouldn't change a thing!" Nadia explained.

She broke the news in a tell all interview

Nadia said she had been initially worried to go public with the news because she felt there was a stigma surrounding single mums.

Her unborn child's dad lives in the States and despite the distance, Nadia said he still wants to be involved and plans to 'co-parent' with him.

The telly star said she is planning to raise the child with the support of family as well as taking advice from some of her celeb mummy pals.

Nadia said she was seeking Ferne McCann out for tips on single motherhood

But Nadia says she's still open to dating again

Nadia said she was turning to fellow single mum Ferne McCann, who raises 22-month-old Sunday alone, for some mother tips.

"Ferne is a really good example of someone who has never let her status ad a single mum hold her back," said Nadia. "She owns it and people love her for it."

But despite her single status, Nadia is still open to finding love again, saying it takes a 'special kind of man' to date a woman while pregnant.

"I love myself more than I ever thought possible and I hope my baby will be the making of me," she added.
