Norma Michaels dead: King of Queens and Modern Family star dies aged 95

Norma Michaels has died aged 95.

She was a character actress that was most recognised for her role as Josephine on King of Queens.

Norma passed away peacefully at her home in Palm Springs, California on Saturday, according to a statement made by a spokesperson for the actress.

Her film and television career span more then six decades and she was was best known for starring opposite Jerry Stiller in King of Queens.

She also made memorable appearances in Modern Family, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Everybody Loves Raymond.

Norma enjoyed a lengthy film career with appearances in Wedding Crashers, You Don't Mess with the Zohan and Easy A, among others.

Her final feature length appearance was as Sally Field's mother in 2015's hit Hello, My Name is Doris.

Norma started her career in 1954 on The George Gobel Show.

Her breakout role came ten years later in 1964 TV hit The Jack Benny Show.

Norma crossed genres, giving her roles in some of the biggest shows on the small screen including Ally McBeal, Lizzie McGuire, The Gilmore Girls and iCarly.

Norma also enjoyed a successful career as a counsellor outside her acting life.

She is survived by her longtime manager and friend Jasper Cole, his husband Dennis Turrone and there will be a memorial service and celebration of her life in March, according to her spokesperson.

Norma's family has asked for donations made to animal rescue charities in lieu of flowers.
