Joe Lycett has offered to look after the children of political advisers so they don't have to drive up to Country Durham.

The hilarious comedian, 31, felt so strongly about the matter that he even wrote a message directly to the Prime Minister's Office about the proposition.

Joe's statement appeared to be a swipe at Boris Johnson's adviser Dominic Cummings, who has defied lockdown rules and travelled from London to Durham on apparently two occations.

Government officials defended Cummings' actions and argued that he made the trip because he needed to secure childcare.

Joe's message to the Prime Minister's office offered a compromise.

"Hi babe i'm in brum so if any more of your advisors get sick and need child support i'm happy to have them and i'm approx 150 miles closer to london than County Durham," the funnyman wrote.

"Doing my bit," he captioned his social media post.

The Birmingham-born comedian - who has performed some epic stunts on his show - has been heralded for his ingenious offer amid the controversy.

He travelled more than 250 miles in a car with his wife Mary

"Next Thursday we should all stand outside and clap for Joe Lycett, the nation's true hero," wrote one fan.

Another wrote: "Lol! So much more polite than I'd be contacting the government!"

In a nod to a previous stunt where he legally changed his name Hugo Boss, another follower had an idea.

"Try changing the name to ‘ boris Johnson ’ next," the follower joked.

Joe has not been the only well known name to raise their frustrations about Dominic travelling more than 250 miles despite Boris Johnson urging people to stay at home.

Earlier today, JK Rowling joined the furore and slammed Cummings over the decision to travel.

In her post, she called the decision "Indefensible hypocrisy and selfishness," while families across the country missed funerals because of the lockdown.

Piers Morgan also issued a threat if if Dominic Cummings isn't sacked.
