Stephen Clements’ former radio station holds minute’s silence in tribute on day of his funeral

Stephen Clements’ former radio station, Belfast’s Q Radio, has held a minute’s silence in honour of the late broadcaster.

The popular BBC Radio Ulster host died suddenly last week, aged 47, and was laid to rest on Tuesday, 14 January.

In honour of his funeral taking place, Q Radio announced that it would hold a minute’s silence at 4.30pm.

They tweeted: ‘In memory of our former colleague and friend, Stephen Clements one minute silence will be observed on Q Radio at 4:30pm today. Please feel free to join us for a moment of reflection.’

The service, which began at 4.30pm, was open to the public before Stephen was laid to rest at the Roselawn cemetery in Belfast.

His death was confirmed last week, and although his cause of death has yet to be revealed, though police have confirmed it is ‘not suspicious’.

Following confirmation that he had died, several Northern Irish radio programmes were dedicated to his memory.

Stepping in to replace Clements’ mid-morning show, Steven Rainey said: ‘I know that I am not the voice any of us are expecting to hear this morning.

‘Stephen Clements was truly a one-off, he was a brilliant broadcaster who I know brought so much to so many of us here.’

Referencing Stephen joining the BBC in September 2019, he continued: ‘Stephen was only part of that family for a short time’, but added: ‘He had become a really special part of what we do.’

The popular presenter had recently started his ‘job of a lifetime’ with the BBC in Northern Ireland, and had co-presented the BBC Children In Need appeal in Northern Ireland last summer.

Stephen is survived by his wife Natasha and their children Poppy and Robbie.
