Daniel Craig wasn’t trusted to drive James Bond’s iconic Aston Martin during high-speed scenes

Daniel Craig wasn’t always allowed to drive his swanky James Bond car in No Time To Die because guess what? It was just too damn dangerous.

The 51-year-old – who was already in a bad way due to a pesky exploding ankle – wasn’t trusted behind the wheel of his Aston Martin DB5 during the high-speed chase scenes in Italy.

We can practically feel poor Craigy’s disappointment from here.

Daniel revealed his stunt driver Mark Higgins had to take his place during the seriously high-octane action shots in his upcoming final 007 film.

‘You know we fake it, don’t you?’ the Knives Out actor told Top Gear Magazine.

‘We’re not allowed to do that any more, although I do go driving.’

He conceded: ‘I was allowed to donut the DB5 in Matera [in Italy], which was great.’

Mark previously spoke about the action scenes and said that while the film uses stunt doubles, everything ‘done is real’.

‘I think a lot of these films are going away from CGI and trying to make it as real as possible,’ he told Esquire.

‘The environment we were driving in was very, very restricted and very, very tight. So it’s a difficult place to work in.’

Tbh, we do think Daniel’s a bit relieved to get a free pass from some of the tougher scenes, seeing as he broke his leg while filming 2015’s Spectre.

The poor man injured his knee during a fight scene with Dave Bautista in his last outing and had to get arthroscopic surgery – which is painful enough trying to spell let alone go through.

He admitted to Entertainment Weekly: ‘I finished that movie with a broken leg. I had to question myself: Was I physically capable of doing [another one] or did I want to do another one?

‘Because that phone call to your wife saying “I’ve broken my leg” is not pleasant.’

Still, the star – who has daughter Ella, 26, with ex-wife Fiona Loudon and a 15-month-old daughter with current wife Rachel Weisz – signed up for No Time To Die and was hit by another serious injury again when his ankle ‘exploded’.

He explained: ‘I was running down a floating dock, and it was wet, and I slipped, and I fell over, and my ankle exploded.

‘Unfortunately, I’ve been in the same situation before and I know the feeling of a rupturing tendon. I was just like, “Oh, f**k”.’

This guy. He just cannot catch a break.
