Gary Barlow rocks a sharp suit before changing into a hard hat

He announced he will be taking on a new challenge as a cruise ship performer.

And the first promotional images of Gary Barlow performing at a piano on a dimly-lit stage have been released by P&O Cruises ahead of his maiden voyage.

The Take That singer, 48, who has recently been revealed at the company's new brand ambassador, also got involved in the construction side of the ship.

Photos from the shoot show Gary poised at the piano ready to play a tune, wearing a brown suit teamed with a crisp cream shirt and a pair of brown leather shoes.

Gary, who has also been named musical director of the ship's 710 Club, later reclined in a leather sofa sipping from a whiskey glass in what looked like a bar lounge.

As well as working on P&0 cruises as a musical director, Gary is set to make his fans dreams come by meeting them on-board the luxury vessel.

He will tutor the club's resident band, and even design the bar's cocktails.

Dapper: Gary, who has also been named musical director of the ship's 710 Club, later reclined in a leather sofa sipping from a whiskey glass in what looked like a bar lounge.

Announcing the news, the singer posted a video of himself  playing the piano before shooting a smouldering look at the camera.

He wrote: 'I'm very pleased to announce that I'll be coming aboard @pandocruises Iona this year as Musical Director ! Here's to making more music and memories with you.....'

Fans will also get the chance to rub shoulders with the Back For Good singer if they book a cruise holiday visiting the Canary Islands, the Norwegian Fjords, Spain, and Portugal.

'As its musical director, I want to give a unique experience for people who love music as much as I do.

Gary is one of the UK's most successful musicians, and celebrated 30 years of Take That last year.

And while he will be performing on two P&O Cruises this year, sadly fellow members Howard Donald and Mark Owen will not be joining him.

Gary be playing on the trip from Southampton to the Norwegian Fjords on August 29, and on October 31 to Spain and Portugal.

Passengers can expect to see the Back for Good hitmaker play, and he will also be curating the 710 Club on other Iona trips.

Fans of the superstar can buy tickets on the Scandinavian route for £749-per-person.

He will also perform at the ship's naming festival in July.

Iona has 17 restaurants, including eight speciality restaurants, and 12 bars - for the Take That singer to have a tipple.

The Rule the World singer will likely croon songs from his solo career, as well as Take That.

The star had 12 Number One singles with boy band, and eight Number One albums.
