Lewis Burton seen in London as Caroline Flack flees to LA

Caroline Flack's boyfriend Lewis Burton has been pictured for the first time since the ex-Love Island host fled to Los Angeles in a bid to 'escape all the drama' surrounding her assault charge.

The model and tennis coach, 27, looked down in the dumps as he stepped out in south-east London on Monday after being forced to spend Christmas apart from his TV presenter girlfriend, 40, due to her bail conditions.

Caroline will be ringing in 2020 in the US after a turbulent month, which saw her being charged with assaulting Lewis and subsequently having to step down from her £1.2 million-a-year Love Island hosting gig.

A source said: 'Caroline feels trapped in the UK. She can't see or communicate with Lewis but she also doesn't want to return to her flat because her every move is documented by photographers.

'She’s driving herself mad, as she likes to be busy ... she’s jetted to LA. Whenever she's hit hard times, she's always "found herself" again in the mountains, away from the limelight.

'She wants to feel the sunshine on her skin, do long hikes and clear her head.'

MailOnline contacted Caroline's representatives for comment at the time.

Police said the pair were covered in blood after a 'horror movie attack' when they arrived at Caroline's flat in north London on December 12 – with Lewis saying in a 999 call 'she tried to kill me', Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court heard last week.

Caroline has denied assault and remains in a relationship with model and tennis coach Lewis.

She wrote on Instagram: 'I'm glad it's Laura. She loves the show as much as I do… Again... Thank you so much for your continuous messages of support…

'It's a really tough time… But I'm doing all I can to keep my head above water and sort this all out.'
