The new head of the EC called for maintaining sanctions against Russia
Ursula von der Lyayen urged EU countries to maintain the previously imposed sanctions against Russia.
The European Union should not refuse sanctions against Russia. This was stated in an interview with the Italian newspaper La Repubblica the new European Commission President Ursula von der Lyayen.
In her opinion, European countries "are witnessing a somewhat hostile attitude on the part of Russia." Among the examples of such an attitude she called a violation of international laws and, in particular, the annexation of the Crimea, as well as "attempts to divide Europe as much as possible."
“The Kremlin does not forgive any weakness. From a position of strength, we must maintain sanctions and, at the same time, propose a dialogue,” said Ursula von der Lyayen.
